El Salvador is known worldwide for having a consistent swell, which makes it popular among the surfing community. El Tunco itself has waves that are perfect for beginners. Nearby beaches, such as El Zonte are especially known for having larger waves for the more experienced surfers.
El Tunco is in La Libertad, the department of El Salvador immedately next to San Salvador.
El Tunco is only a 20 minute drive to the National Airport and 40 minute drive to the capital city, San Salvador.
“El Tunco” is a local word to Salvadorans, which means “The Pig”. This is the name the gave the enormous stone piling at the front and center of the beach.
El Salvador’s Coast is 191 Miles (307 km) long. There’s no shortage of beautiful beaches here.
The small town of El Tunco only has two principal streets and takes only 5 minutes to walk.
El Salvador is known for it’s locally grown coffee and Pupusas. Be sure to try them both!
